New Plantings

Landscape Beds That Mature Beautifully

A well-designed planting bed is not a collection of plants — it is an orchestrated composition that evolves through seasons and years. We design plantings with mature form in mind, spacing for the size plants will reach in five to ten years rather than how they look at installation. This requires restraint at planting time, but it prevents the overcrowded, maintenance-intensive beds that result from instant-gratification spacing.

Landscape Beds That Mature Beautifully

"We asked them to transplant a 25-year-old Japanese maple that my mother had planted. They moved it in fall, and it leafed out perfectly the following spring. That tree means more to us than any new planting ever could."

Foundation Plantings

Foundation Plantings

The beds immediately surrounding your home — the plants visitors see first. We design foundation plantings that frame architecture without obscuring it, using layered compositions of evergreen structure shrubs, flowering specimens, and perennial accents that provide year-round interest and seasonal color.

Mixed Borders

Mixed Borders

Deep beds combining shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, and groundcovers. These are the backbone of designed gardens — providing structure through winter, peak color in summer, and textural interest year-round. We design borders for continuous bloom with overlapping flowering periods from April through October.

Specimen Tree Installation

Specimen Tree Installation

Large-caliper trees that provide immediate presence and mature form. We source trees from wholesale nurseries across New England, selecting for form, health, and root structure. Proper installation includes root ball handling, planting depth, staking when necessary, and establishment watering programs.

Transplanting

Relocating Established Landscapes

Sometimes the most valuable plants are already on your property — just in the wrong location. A mature tree blocking a view, a hedge that has outgrown its space, or beloved plantings that must move for a construction project. Transplanting is the art and science of moving established plants without killing them, and it requires expertise that most landscapers do not possess.

The Process

From Design to Established Landscape

01
01
Step 01

Site Assessment

The owner walks your property to understand existing conditions, your vision, and any constraints. For transplanting projects, we evaluate the health and moveability of existing plants.

02
02
Step 02

Design Development

We develop planting plans showing species, quantities, and placement. Plant selection balances your preferences with site suitability, maintenance requirements, and budget. For transplanting, we determine optimal timing and methods.

03
03
Step 03

Bed Preparation

Excavation, soil amendment based on test results, grading for drainage, and edging installation. For transplanting, we prepare the receiving hole before moving the plant.

04
04
Step 04

Installation

Plants are installed at proper depth with appropriate spacing. Large trees require mechanical handling. Transplants are moved with intact root balls and immediately replanted and watered.

Step 05

Establishment & Care

Mulching, initial deep watering, and care instructions. For transplants and large specimens, we schedule follow-up visits to monitor establishment and adjust care as needed.

Plant Health

The Difference Between Surviving and Thriving

Any landscaper can put a plant in the ground. Making that plant thrive for decades requires understanding the science of root establishment, the art of proper placement, and the discipline of correct installation technique. We have planted thousands of trees and shrubs across MetroWest since 1960 — and learned from the ones that failed as much as the ones that succeeded.
